This beautifully illustrated book contains 25 Folk Songs from America, China, England, France, Germany, Greece, Jamaica, Russia, Scotland and Spain. Each song has been carefully arranged to boost the confidence of the young pianist, allowing them to sing along while they play. The great Hungarian pedagogue Kodaly believed that a child should first learn folk songs from their motherland and in their mother tongue; then songs from neighbouring countries; then gradually more exotic songs from further afield. Folk songs offer rich cultural material, and act as a direct bridge to a more keen appreciation of classical music.
