Concert Paraphrase of Tchaikowsky's Swan Lake Finale

by Matthew Koumis  (Op 2)
Product code: 06
Editions: Print
Year: 2016
Pages: 12
Level of difficulty: Diploma

This piece was written for my student Fang-Lin Liu as a teaching piece and concert piece in the summer of 2015. I drew freely on the orchestral scores for Tchaikovsky’s ballet ‘Swan Lake’, added some new cadenzas, and an extended coda.

I tried to listen to the composer’s voice, and to find piano sounds which are gratifying to play. Pianists with smaller hands should not hesitate to make amendments to this score: instead treat the score as a starting point or catalyst to find a suitable expression which works for you and with you. The nature of music is not solid, but liquid: to flow, to express, to create, and to share again.
